PABI Agrarian Innovators Seek PAU Expert Advice In Agribusiness
26 December 2024, Punjab: Offering continuous support to aspiring entrepreneurs, two new innovators, channelized through the Department of Entomology and Punjab Agri Business Incubator (PABI), sought expert advice from the mentors of School of Business Studies (SBS) of Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) and NIDHI-TBI team for the development of their business model. Experts of marketing, business development and business accelerators provided insights about agri-business model and its execution. The visitors comprised Mr Gurdas Singh Kaler, an owner of Kaler Bee Farm – an emerging brand specializing in organic and premium quality honey through super colonies; and Mr Jaspreet Singh Sandhu from Doctor Kissan enterprises, who came up with an idea to use the leftover potatoes and process them into ‘aloo wari’. The aspiring entrepreneurs visited SBS and gained valuable insights from the team of National Initiative for Developing and Harnessing Innovations – Technology Business Incubator (NIDHI-TBI), a Department of Science and Technology (DST), Government of India sponsored project; it changed their entire perspective of farming in Punjab. Mr Kaler also got technical assistance from the Department of Entomology, PAU.
Dr Jaspal Singh, Principal Entomologist and Mr Harinder Singh, Bee Professional (JRF), suggested the use of super colonies, and told that moisture content in honey would be reduced, hence, improving the quality with ease in processing. The PABI team including, Mr Karanvir Singh Gill, Business Manager, and Mr Rahul Gupta, Assistant Manager, were also present in the deliberations.
The session was appreciated and addressed by Dr Ramandeep Singh, Principal Investigator, NIDHI-TBI and Director, SBS; and Dr Sandeep Kapoor, Professor, School of Business Studies.
Dr Ramandeep Singh provided his valuable insights about the benefits of using super colonies like transportation ease, organized storage, lesser land space requirement for placement along with Intellectual Property rights of rural innovators.
Dr Sandeep further added that although a single super colony unit would be slightly expensive than the usual colony unit, yet because of their increased capacity, the number of super colonies required would reduce, hence bringing down the overall capital cost for the proposed business model.
Mr Gurinder Singh, CEO from NIDHI-TBI, stated that this business model will be beneficial for other honey producers. The quality of honey produced using super colonies will be consistent and therefore beneficial at the consumer end.
