Odisha Expands Mango Export Reach to France and Belgium — Nearly 100 MT Exported to 7+ Countries
09 June 2025, Bhubaneswar: Odisha has strengthened its position as an emerging agri-export hub by adding France and Belgium to its mango export destinations. The milestone comes as part of the state’s steady push to access premium international markets, following previous exports to Dubai, London, Birmingham, Rome, Venice, and Dublin.
In the first week of June 2025, 13.4 metric tonnes (MT) of mangoes were exported to London and Dubai. These shipments were made possible through the collective efforts of Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs), including Saptasajya Farmer Producer Company Ltd., Dharitree Agro Plus Company Ltd., Kankadahad Farmer Producer Company Ltd., and Sugandha Farmer Producer Company Ltd.
Odisha’s Export Performance Nears 100 MT
Since May 2024, Odisha’s agricultural export volume has approached 100 MT, with mangoes—particularly the Amrapalli and Dashehari varieties—forming a large share of the total. The latest consignments to France and Belgium mark a key achievement in the state’s expanding trade footprint.
Strategic Support Behind Export Growth
The Department of Agriculture & Farmers’ Empowerment (DA&FE), Government of Odisha, has led this initiative, supported by Palladium India as the Technical Support Unit (TSU) for the marketing component of the Promotion and Stabilization of Farmer Producer Organizations (PSFPO) Project. The project is backed by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and implemented in collaboration with NABARD, with APEDA serving as the export partner.
Palladium has facilitated market identification, compliance with international standards, logistics, and the overall export preparedness of FPOs across Odisha.
Higher Prices and Better Market Access for Farmers
Direct access to international markets has translated into 40–60% higher prices for mango farmers in Odisha. Aggregation through FPOs, along with improved post-harvest handling and compliance, has enabled better earnings and greater market confidence among farmers.
Odisha’s Growing Momentum in Agri-Exports
Having entered seven international markets in 2024–25, Odisha has already surpassed that figure in early 2025–26, both in terms of new destinations and export volume. The trend reflects sustained government efforts to make the state a national leader in agri-exports.
Deputy Director of Horticulture (Dhenkanal), Ms. Gitashree Padhi, noted, “The global acceptance of Odisha mangoes in markets like France and Belgium reflects the potential of our farmers and the strength of our horticultural ecosystem. This milestone is a proud moment for Dhenkanal and the state.”
Farmers Celebrate Global Recognition
Subhashini Charter, a farmer from Kankadahad FPCL, shared, “We never imagined our mangoes would reach France. This opportunity has brought better income and immense pride to our village. We thank the Department of Agriculture & Farmers’ Empowerment and Palladium for guiding us through this journey.”
