National Workshop on “Production of Disease-Free Nursery Planting Materials on PPP Mode” organized

29 June 2022, New Delhi: The ICAR-Central Citrus Research Institute, Nagpur, Maharashtra organized the National Workshop on “Production of Disease-Free Citrus Planting Materials on PPP Mode” here today.

Shri Nitin Gadkari, Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways urged the Institute for conducting the performance audit of the licensee nursery owners for granting them the Ratings and Certificates of Standard. The Union Minister called upon the Scientists for standardising the quality parameters for exporting the Citrus Fruits and carry out the need-based research with the support and collaboration of developed countries.

Dr. Trilochan Mohapatra, Secretary (DARE) & DG (ICAR) highlighted the various important issues of the current agricultural scenario of India. The need to leverage the Skill Development Programmes & Government Schemes of MIDH and NHB, etc., to train the Private Nursery Owners for developing the disease-free planting material using ICAR-CCRI’s developed technology was stressed by the DG.

Dr. Mohapatra emphasized on certifying such nurseries. The ICAR-CCRI’s efforts of using the subsurface Drip Irrigation System that improves water use efficiency and reduces the use of chemical fertilizers, thus, promoting precision agriculture in the era of climate change was also outlined by the Director General.

Dr. Suresh Kumar Chaudhari, Deputy Director General (Natural Resource Management), ICAR and Prof. C.D. Mayee, Former Chairman, Agricultural Scientists’ Recruitment Board, New Delhi were among the Guests of Honour of the programme.

The dignitaries also released the various Publications and Facility Centres of the Institute during the occasion.

Welcoming the dignitaries, Dr. Dilip Ghosh, Director, ICAR-CCRI, Nagpur underlined the Institute’s achievements in the different areas of Citri-culture, particularly, in the production of superior quality disease-free planting materials that have a huge demand among the farmers.

The programme registered participation by the Officers from various State Agricultural Universities, NHB, NABARD, State Horticulture Department Officers and Citrus Nursery Owners from 5 different States.
