Kharif 2021 sowing touches 850 lakh ha., widespread rainfall expected ahead

18% growth in area from last week’s coverage, IMD forecasts widespread rainfall ahead.

30 July 2021, New Delhi, IN: Kharif 2021 sowing picked up across India from last week’s coverage of 721 lakh ha. to 848.15 lakh ha. as of today as per the figures released by the Ministry of Agriculture. Monsoon has been supportive after patchy rainfall at the start of the season. IMD expects widespread rainfall across West Bengal, Jharkhand, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh and adjoining northern parts of Madhya Pradesh and east Rajasthan in the next two weeks.

The states have assured normal coverage of crops in the coming month taking in consideration the forecast by IMD.

For Paddy, about 264.62 lakh ha area coverage has been reported compared to normal of corresponding week (258.74 lakh ha). Thus 5.88 lakh ha more area has been covered compared to normal of corresponding week. Higher area is reported from the State of Madhya Pradesh (5.56 lakh ha), followed by Telangana (4.84 lakh ha) and Uttar Pradesh (3.63 lakh ha).

For Cotton, about 110.73 lakh ha area coverage has been reported with higher area is reported from the States of Telangana (3.69 lakh ha), Karnataka (0.69 lakh ha) and Rajasthan (0.61 lakh ha).
