MSP Procurement in Rajasthan: Government Promises 72-Hour Payment, But Farmers Express Concerns Over Delays

14 May 2025, Jaipur: The Rajasthan government has removed registration limits for the procurement of chickpea (chana) and mustard under the Minimum Support Price (MSP) scheme. This move is expected to ease the selling process for farmers across the state. Previously, there were district-level caps on the number of farmers who could register for MSP sales, which have now been lifted.

Procurement Underway at 222 Centres

Following directives from the central government, the National Cooperative Consumers’ Federation (NCCF) Jaipur and Rajfed have launched procurement operations at 222 centers across the state. In the Jodhpur division alone, 68 centers have been operational since last month. Officials claim that payments are being processed within 72 hours of farmers depositing their produce.

FPOs to Manage Inactive Centers

In locations where designated procurement centers—such as KBMS or GSS—are not currently functional, the responsibility for procurement will be handed over to Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs), FX bodies, or other registered farmer groups. The state government maintains that this approach will ensure an uninterrupted procurement process.

Farmer Outreach and Monitoring Mechanisms

To improve efficiency and resolve on-ground issues, the government has launched a farmer outreach campaign and established a state-level monitoring and review system. Through these initiatives, authorities aim to address farmers’ concerns in real time.

While many farmers have welcomed the decision to eliminate registration limits—saying it will allow more producers to benefit from MSP—some have reported overcrowding at procurement centers and delays in receiving timely payments, despite the 72-hour assurance.

The government continues to assert that the recent measures are in the best interest of farmers and will strengthen the state’s agricultural economy.
