Mr. Ram Nath Thakur, reviews ICAR-IISWC, Dehradun
07 January 2024, Haridwar: Ram Nath Thakur, Union Minister of State for Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare, interacted with the Director and Senior Officers of ICAR-Indian Institute of Soil and Water Conservation, Dehradun, here today to review the research and development activities of the institute.
Mr. Thakur highlighted the Institute’s key role in supporting farmers and farming communities. He urged scientists to adopt a proactive approach in addressing farmers’ needs and enhancing their prosperity. The Minister emphasized diversifying agricultural practices, including livestock, fish farming, vegetable cultivation, and crop production, both regionally and nationally. He also stressed the efficient use of the Institute’s resources to develop better crop varieties, increase production, and benefit farmers nationwide.
Dr Madhu, Director, ICAR-IISWC, provided an overview of the Institute’s key activities and accomplishments. He emphasized services such as technical consultations, laboratory support, and academic services related to soil and water conservation (SWC) technologies and natural resource management. He also highlighted recent innovations and initiatives, including the Drone’s Remote Pilot Training Organization (RPTO).
The presentation also highlighted the impact of the Institute’s technologies and services on farmers and stakeholders. It showcased contributions through professional services such as consultancies for riverbed material (RBM) extraction, preparation of detailed project reports (DPRs) for watershed management, impact evaluation of watershed projects, and the maintenance of a repository for data on natural resource management and SWC.
The experts shared detailed insights into SWC technologies, bioengineering measures, and soil health management strategies.
A total of 33063 farmers from 180 villages across the country benefitted from the services of the Institute during the last 2 years.
