Mr. Pratap Chandra Sarangi Graces The Swachhta Pakhwada Valedictory Function
01 January 2025, New Delhi: The valedictory session of the 16-day (16th–31st December 2024) Swachhta Pakhwada organised by ICAR-Indian Institute of Water Management concluded today.
The Chief Guest Mr. Pratap Chandra Sarangi, Member of Parliament, Balasore, Odisha, highlighted the positive changes brought about by the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan (SBA) since 2014, including increased awareness, behavioral shifts, improved health, and reduced vulnerability to diseases in both rural and urban areas. He also emphasized the importance of cleanliness, citing examples from ‘Lakshmi Purana’ and Mr. Vinoba Bhave’s village cleanliness efforts. Mr. Sarangi emphasized the importance of cleanliness in mitigating the effects of water, air, and soil pollution, and highlighted the growing threat of noise pollution and microplastics to health and the environment. He urged for greater public participation and collective action to sustain the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan. The Chief Guest planted a sandalwood sapling on campus and administered the Swachhta pledge to all participants.
Dr Arjamadutta Sarangi, Director, ICAR-IIWM, spoke about various swachhta-related activities such as sensitization programmes in villages and schools, the importance of swachhta in the creation of a healthy society, recycling of waste water, scientific waste management including the process of converting waste to wealth, plantation drives in villages and ‘clean and green drive’ in campus including generation of solar power, etc being implemented by the Institute in both letter and spirit.
About 100 participants attended the programme.
