Monsoon Withdrawal Begins: Dry Weather Expected in Central India as Heavy Rains Target Northeast and South
03 October 2024, New Delhi: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an important weather update predicting enhanced rainfall activity across Northeast India, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Mahe over the next six to seven days. The withdrawal of the Southwest Monsoon continues, and a new low-pressure system is likely to form over the North Bay of Bengal around October 4th.
Weather Highlights:
- Northeast India & Sub-Himalayan West Bengal: Widespread rainfall is expected, with heavy to very heavy downpours likely in parts of Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura on October 3rd and 4th.
- South Peninsular India: Kerala, Tamil Nadu, and Puducherry will experience heavy rains over the next week, with isolated heavy showers likely in South Interior Karnataka and Rayalaseema.
- Monsoon Withdrawal: Conditions are favorable for the further withdrawal of the Southwest Monsoon from West Uttar Pradesh, parts of Madhya Pradesh, East Rajasthan, and Gujarat over the next 2-3 days.
Fishermen Warning:
Squally weather with wind speeds up to 55 kmph is expected over the Gulf of Mannar and parts of the Bay of Bengal. Fishermen are advised to avoid these areas during this period.
Farmers and residents in these regions are advised to take necessary precautions, including ensuring proper drainage in agricultural fields and avoiding travel to flood-prone areas.
