Millets Field Day Organized in hilly tracts of Arunachal Pradesh

04 August 2022, New Delhi: ICAR-Indian Institute of Millets Research, Hyderabad in association with Multi-Technology Testing Centre (MTTC) and Vocational Training Centre (VTC), Arunachal Pradesh of CAU-Imphal has organized Awareness Programme on Nutritional Health Benefits of Millets, Input Distribution cum Method Demonstration on Improved Sowing Practices of Finger Millet and Foxtail Millet in different villages of East Siang & Siang District of Arunachal Pradesh from 13-17, July 2022.

Dr. Premaradhya, N., Principal Investigator of this millet Project was briefed about its importance in health benefits, production techniques and value addition of small millets. Also demonstrated the direct seeded line sowing which was new in the region as they broadcast the seeds and left uncared till the harvest in jhum fields. Further, Dr. Ajaykumara K.M., Co-PI of the project also address the gathering on bio intensive pest and disease management in the millet’s cultivation.

Later, distributed pamphlet on millet health benefits in bilingual mode (English & Adi Language), improved varieties of Finger millet (GPU-67, VR-847), Foxtail Millet (SIA-3156) and other inputs (khurpi & vermicompost) to around 80 identified farmers of village. 

The programs were organized under the guidance and Support of Director, ICAR-IIMR, Dr. Sangappa, Nodal Officer (Millets-NEH Program). ICAR-IIMR, Hyderabad and Prof. B.N.Hazarika, Dean, College of Horticulture and Forestry, (CAU-Imphal), Pasighat, Arunachal Pradesh.
