Mahila Matsyajibi Diwas organised
30 December 2024, Kolkata: ICAR-Central Inland Fisheries Research Institute, in collaboration with the National Fisheries Development Board, NAAS Regional Chapter, and Kultali Milon Tirtha Society, celebrated the first Mahila Matsyajibi Diwas at Kultali, Basanti, in the Sundarbans. The event aimed to honor the vital role of women in fisheries, particularly in the face of challenges like tropical cyclones and tidal surges.
Dr Pradip Dey, Director, ICAR-Agricultural Technology Application Research Institute, Kolkata, emphasized women’s contribution to small-scale aquaculture for livelihood and nutritional security.
The programme included a demonstration of drone applications in fisheries, the distribution of fisheries inputs to 500 women beneficiaries from the Scheduled Caste community, and the launch of the CIFRI-SBZI Model Village Development Project.
A total of 5000 women participated in the programme.
