Madhya Pradesh Announces 1516 Procurement Centers for Paddy and Coarse Grains
19 November 2024, Bhopal: In a significant move aimed at facilitating farmers, the Madhya Pradesh government has announced the establishment of 1,412 procurement centers for paddy and 104 centers for coarse grains, such as jowar and bajra, across the state. The procurement of jowar and bajra will begin on November 22, while paddy procurement is set to start from December 2, according to Food, Civil Supplies, and Consumer Protection Minister Govind Singh Rajput.
Highlighting the government’s commitment to ensuring a smooth and transparent procurement process, Shri Rajput said that these centers would play a pivotal role in supporting farmers and safeguarding their interests during the Rabi season.
Extensive Network of Paddy Procurement Centers
The state has created an extensive network of procurement centers, with district-level allocations aimed at ensuring accessibility for farmers across the state. For example, Balaghat leads with 185 centers, followed by Satna with 144 centers, and Jabalpur with 125 centers. Other districts, such as Rewa, Seoni, and Katni, also have significant numbers of centers at 123, 99, and 84, respectively. Smaller districts like Harda, Vidisha, Morena, and Ashoknagar have also been accommodated with at least one procurement center each.
Coarse Grain Procurement Centers for Jowar and Bajra
The government has also set up 104 centers dedicated to the procurement of coarse grains, specifically jowar and bajra. Major allocations include Morena, which has 51 centers, and Bhind, with 20 centers. Smaller districts like Rewa, Singrauli, Shahdol, and Sheopur have also been covered to ensure that farmers growing coarse grains have access to procurement facilities.
