KVK Hoshiarpur Organizes Field Day on Wheat Sown With Super Seeder

11 March 2022, Punjab: Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Hoshiarpur has been advocating non-burning of paddy residue and popularization of paddy straw management techniques for avoiding environmental degradation for the benefit of the people in campaign mode. In this context, KVK, Hoshiarpur also conducted demonstrations on various paddy residue management techniques at farmer fields for the effective management of paddy residue during rabi 2021-22.

For showcasing the effect of residue management technologies to the farmers of the area, KVK, Hoshiarpur conducted a field day on direct wheat sown with Super seeder after harvesting of paddy with super SMS combine on 9-3-2022 at paddy residue management adopted village Hukran.

At the outset, Dr. Maninder Singh Bons, Deputy Director (Training), KVK Hoshiarpur welcomed the farmers and gave a brief overview of the activities of KVK, especially the project on in-situ crop residue management. He highlighted the harmful effects of crop residue burning and also informed the farmers about the benefits of adopting paddy residue management techniques. Dr. Bons also praised the cooperative spirit of the hard working & progressive farmers of the village for achieving the mission of non-burning of paddy residue. He also discussed the integrated pest management practices in wheat, gobhi sarson, gram and lentil crops and cultivation practices for summer moong and mash.

Er. Ajaib Singh, Assistant Professor (Agril. Engg.) laid stress on the proper management of paddy residue through the proper use of farm machinery and shared various technological options for in-situ paddy residue management in detail. He also shared important tips during harvesting of wheat crop and safe storage of grains.

Ms. Sunita, Programme Assistant, KVK Hoshiarpur sensitized the farmers about the importance of soil testing and proper method of soil sampling.

On this occasion, crop residue managing progressive farmer of the village Hukran, S. Satinder Singh shared his successful experiences of paddy residue management through the use of Super Seeder and a field visit to the residue managed fields was also arranged.

The participating farmers were provided PAU package of practices for kharif crops and summer vegetable kits for integrated nutrition gardening.

In the end, Sarpanch of village Hukran, Master Mohan Singh thanked all the experts and farmers and assured all support for further spreading the message of non-burning of crop residue.
