Kisan Mela-Cum-Exhibition Inaugurated
30 August 2024, Bhubaneswar: ICAR-Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Khordha and ICAR-Central Institute of Freshwater Aquaculture jointly organized Kisan Mela-cum-Exhibition today. The mela was inaugurated by Dr. U. S. Gautam, Deputy Director General (Agricultural Extension), ICAR.
Prof M. M. Adhikary, Former Vice-Chancellor, Bidhan Chandra Krishi Viswavidyalaya, West Bengal; Dr. R. R. Burman, Assistant Director General (Agricultural Extension), ICAR; Dr. Pradip Dey, Director, ICAR-Agricultural Technology Application Research Institute, Kolkata; and Dr. P. J. Mishra, Dean (Extension Education), OUAT, Bhubaneswar, also graced the occasion.
Dr. Gautam highlighted the importance of adopting various agricultural and allied sector activities such as mushroom cultivation, beekeeping, aquaculture, dairy farming, and horticulture to double farmers’ income. He also emphasized the need to enhance the ICAR-KVK, Khordha, as a model KVK in India’s Fishery sector.
Dr. Burman accentuated the importance of digital extension for disseminating technological information. Professor Adhikary underscored the importance of providing demonstrations to farmers.
Dr. P. K. Sahoo, Director, ICAR-CIFA, highlighted the significance of ICAR-KVK, Khordha, in enhancing agriculture and allied sectors in Khordha district.
A farmer-scientist interaction meeting was also organized, during which eleven progressive farmers and farm women were felicitated for their achievements in agriculture and allied sector activities. To mark the campaign “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam,” the dignitaries planted Arecanut saplings.
Around 200 farmers and farm women participated in the programme.
