India Achieves Record Agricultural Output in 2024-25: Government Releases Second Advance Estimates
10 March 2025, New Delhi: The Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare has released the Second Advance Estimates of major agricultural crop production for the 2024-25 season, covering both Kharif and Rabi crops.
The estimates have been finalized after validating data from state governments, remote sensing technologies, and weekly crop weather reports. Additionally, the Department of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare (DoA&FW) consulted stakeholders from industry and government bodies to incorporate insights and assessments for both Kharif and Rabi seasons. Yield calculations are based on Crop Cutting Experiments (CCEs), historical trends, and other relevant factors.

Kharif Rice: 1206.79 LMT (Record)
Rabi Rice (Excluding Summer): 157.58 LMT
Kharif Maize: 248.11 LMT (Record)
Rabi Maize: 124.38 LMT
Shree Anna (Millets) Kharif: 137.52 LMT
Shree Anna (Millets) Rabi: 30.81 LMT
Tur (Pigeon Pea): 35.11 LMT
Gram: 115.35 LMT
Lentil: 18.17 LMT
Oilseeds Production:
Kharif: 276.38 LMT
Rabi (Excluding Summer): 140.31 LMT
Kharif Groundnut: 104.26 LMT (Record)
Rabi Groundnut: 8.87 LMT
Soybean: 151.32 LMT (Record)
Rapeseed & Mustard: 128.73 LMT
Other Major Crops:
Sugarcane: 4350.79 LMT
Cotton: 294.25 Lakh Bales (170 Kg each)
Jute: 83.08 Lakh Bales (180 Kg each)
The production of several key crops has surpassed previous records, with wheat output estimated at 1154.30 LMT, an increase of 21.38 LMT from last year. Kharif rice production has also risen to 1206.79 LMT from 1132.59 LMT in 2023-24, marking an increase of 74.20 LMT. Similarly, soybean production has reached a record 151.32 LMT, up by 20.70 LMT from the previous year.
The Second Advance Estimates incorporate Kharif and Rabi seasons, while the upcoming Third Advance Estimates will include summer crops. Yield projections are subject to revision based on further Crop Cutting Experiments (CCEs), particularly for crops like Tur, Sugarcane, and Castor, where assessments are ongoing.
