India Achieves 10,000 FPO Target: Milestone FPO Registered in Bihar
05 March 2025, New Delhi: The Government of India has successfully met its ambitious target of forming 10,000 Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs) under the Central Sector Scheme launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2020. The 10,000th FPO has been registered in Khagaria district, Bihar, focusing on maize, banana, and paddy cultivation.
Announced during the release of the 19th installment of PM-KISAN in Bhagalpur, Bihar, this milestone marks a significant boost for small and marginal farmers. The scheme, backed by a budget of ₹6,865 crore until 2027-28, has already provided ₹254.4 crore in equity grants to 4,761 FPOs and credit guarantees worth ₹453 crore to 1,900 FPOs.
With around 30 lakh farmers connected to FPOs-40% of whom are women-these organizations are now driving agricultural trade worth thousands of crores. The initiative continues to empower farmers by improving market access, bargaining power, and overall income sustainability.
