24 February 2025, New Delhi: ICAR-National Meat Research Institute, Hyderabad, celebrated its 26th Foundation Day with grandeur and enthusiasm today.
Dr Mukesh Kumar Gupta, Director, ICMR-National Animal Resource Facility for Biomedical Research, Hyderabad, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. He emphasized the importance of scientific advancements in meat research and its role in ensuring food safety, nutrition, and sustainable livestock practices. Dr Gupta also lauded the institute’s relentless efforts in conducting cutting-edge research and fostering industry collaborations.
The Guest of Honor, Dr Amrish Kumar Tyagi, Assistant Director General (AN&P), ICAR, highlighted the crucial role of nutrition and physiology in enhancing meat quality and productivity. Dr Tyagi urged the scientists and researchers to explore innovative strategies for sustainable and ethical meat production.
The Special Guest, Dr Nagendra Sharma, Former Vice-Chancellor, Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology, Jammu, and Chairman, Research Advisory Committee of the institute, acknowledged the institute’s remarkable journey over the years and underscored the need for continued research and innovation in meat production, processing, and quality assurance.
Dr S.B. Barbuddhe, Director, ICAR-NMRI, briefed the institute’s achievements during the previous year.
The event featured insightful presentations on the latest advancements in meat science, sustainable processing technologies, and value addition in meat products. Several researchers, staff members, and officials associated with the institute’s activities were felicitated for their exemplary contributions to the institute’s research and development initiatives. On this occasion, four Memoranda of Understanding were signed with industry partners, and three publications were released on this occasion.
