ICAR Institutes Celebrates 78th Independence Day

16 August 2024, New Delhi: ICAR Institutes pan India celebrated the 78th Independence Day on the theme ‘Viksit Bharat @ 2047’.

ICAR- Central Island Agricultural Research Institute, Port Blair

Dr. Himanshu Pathak, Secretary (DARE) and Director General (ICAR) visited the institute and inaugurated the administrative and training building of ICAR-Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Nimbudera, on the occasion.

Dr. Eaknath B. Chakurkar, Director of ICAR-CIARI, emphasized the institute’s contributions, including the granting of nine patents this year, which encompass innovations such as a closed water circulatory system, a cinnamon bark rubbing tool, a new and safe method for blood collection from farm pigs, an acaricide formulation for tick control in livestock, a method for determining the sex of non-ratite birds, a coconut leaf separator, a parasitic egg concentrator, novel acaricide compositions for veterinary topical applications, and a dual procedure for producing liquid fertilizer and calcium alginate from brown seaweed.

A modern dairy unit was also inaugurated by Dr. N. K. Krishna Kumar, Former Deputy Director General (HS).
During this period, a Kisan Mela was organized, along with a workshop on ‘Sustainable Plant Protection Strategies for ANI’ and a state-level seminar and workshop on natural farming in collaboration with the Andaman Administration. 

About 350 staff members and their families attended the flag-hoisting ceremony.

ICAR-National Bureau of Fish Genetic Resources, Lucknow

Dr. Uttam Kumar Sarkar, Director, ICAR-NBFGR, emphasized the need for continued research in critical areas such as climate-resilient technology for fish biodiversity conservation, milt cryopreservation, cell culture, fish disease surveillance, and extension fisheries, all with a focus on sustainable development and contributing to the Prime Minister’s Vision of ‘Viksit Bharat.’  

The event included a national campaign ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’, where 100 saplings were planted on the institute’s campus.

Dr. Lohit Kumar Baishya, Campus In-charge, ICAR-IARI Assam, highlighted the significance of independence and the sacrifice made by our freedom fighters for our independence. He also urged for collaboration and dedication among all staff members in the initial phase of ICAR-IARI Assam.

Scientists, Administration Staff, and Technical staff along with their families attended the programme.
