ICAR-IIWM Celebrates its 37th Foundation Day
14 May 2024, Bhubaneshwar: ICAR-Indian Institute of Water Management, Bhubaneswar celebrated its 37th Foundation Day today.
The Chief Guest Dr. S.K. Chaudhari, Deputy Director General (Natural Resource Management), emphasized the use of all the natural resources including water in a holistic manner as Panch Tatwa is judiciously used in the human body. He also urged the scientific communities to use low-cost eco-friendly and climate-resilient water management practices to enhance water productivity in different production ecologies.
Dr. P.K. Roul, Vice Chancellor, Odisha University of Agriculture and Technology delivered the Foundation Day lecture and emphasized On-farm water management for wider adoption of farming communities.
Dr. S.K. Ambast, Chairman, Central Ground Water Board, stated that for sustainable use of groundwater in various parts, adequate groundwater recharge is needed.
Dr. A.K. Nayak, Director, ICAR-National Rice Research Institute, Cuttack, Odisha, highlighted improving the water productivity of the canal ecosystem in general and rice cultivation in particular.
Dr. A. Sarangi, Director, ICAR-IIWM briefed about the significant technologies developed by the institute including sensor-based automated irrigation systems.
The Institute released policy papers, briefs, research bulletins, and success stories. An exhibition showcased technologies from ICAR Institutes and private organizations on campus.
The programme was attended by the Directors of various ICAR Institutes, Heads of Regional Centres, Senior functionaries of OUAT, State Govt Officials, CGWB staff, students, and scientists.
