ICAR-IARI Celebrates 120 Years of Agricultural Excellence on Foundation Day
02 April 2025, New Delhi: The Indian Council of Agricultural Research – Indian Agricultural Research Institute (ICAR-IARI), New Delhi, commemorated its 120th Foundation Day with a grand celebration, highlighting its remarkable contributions to Indian agriculture since its establishment in 1905. The event was graced by distinguished dignitaries, eminent scientists, farmers and students, reflecting on the institute’s legacy of research, innovation, and sustainable agricultural advancements.
The celebrations commenced with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp, followed by a welcome address from Dr. Ch. Srinivasa Rao, Director, ICAR-IARI. He outlined the institute’s significant achievements in research, academics, and extension services while emphasizing its role in public-private partnerships, technology development, and environmental sustainability.
Dr. D.K. Yadava, Deputy Director General (Crop Science), ICAR, lauded IARI’s pioneering contributions in agricultural research and its impact on the farming community and national development.
A key highlight of the event was the Foundation Day Lecture delivered by Prof. Ramesh Chand, Member, NITI Aayog. He addressed the evolving challenges and opportunities in Indian agriculture, underscoring the importance of research-driven policies for food security and sustainability.
The program also witnessed the release of several key publications, followed by a felicitation ceremony recognizing outstanding contributions in various categories that included academic excellence award, literary competition, outstanding achievements of IARI’s scientists, and honoring the esteemed speaker, Prof. Ramesh Chand.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. R.N. Padaria, Joint Director (Extension), ICAR-IARI, who expressed gratitude to the dignitaries, organizers, and participants for their invaluable contributions to the success of the celebration. As ICAR-IARI embarks on its 121st year, it reaffirms its commitment to pioneering agricultural research, strengthening India’s farming community, and contributing to global food security.
