ICAR-CIWA, Bhubaneswar Establishes 11 Women-Led CHCs in Odisha

23 December 2024, New Delhi: ICAR-Central Institute for Women in Agriculture, Bhubaneswar signed a Memorandum of Agreements with 11 Women Farmer’s Interest Groups (FIGs)/ Self Help Groups today for establishing Custom Hiring Centres (CHCs) in Puri, Khordha, Bhadrakh, and Balasore districts of Odisha under ‘Scheduled caste sub-plan’ scheme of Govt. of India.

Dr R.C. Agrawal, Deputy Director General (Agril Edn), ICAR, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest.

Dr Mridula Devi, Director, ICAR-CIWA, Bhubaneswar, was also present during the programme.

ICAR-Central Institute for Women in Agriculture, Bhubaneswar, is establishing Custom Hiring Centres (CHCs) under the Scheduled Caste Sub Plan (SCSP) to provide essential tools, machinery, and equipment for village-level rental. These centers will reduce labor, support processing and value addition, foster entrepreneurship, generate income through equipment rentals, and empower women in FIGs and local farmers/farm families.

Eleven Women Farmers’ Interest Groups, comprising more than 110 SC women farmers involved in agriculture and allied activities, participated in the programme.
