ICAR-CIFA Partners with Multinational Company to Promote High-Yielding Scampi
27 March 2025, Bhubaneswar: ICAR-Central Institute of Freshwater Aquaculture (ICAR-CIFA) has developed a high-yielding freshwater prawn variety, “CIFA-GI Scampi®,” through selective breeding. This improved variety offers over 50% higher production than regular scampi, as demonstrated in trials across Andhra Pradesh, Assam, Odisha, and West Bengal.
ICAR-CIFA signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) today with M/s. CPF (India) Private Limited Hatchery, a leading multinational aquaculture company in Andhra Pradesh, to provide breeder seeds of “CIFA-GI Scampi®.” The CPF hatchery, with an annual seed production capacity of over 300 million, will serve as a multiplier hatchery for the improved scampi variety.
The partnership aims to produce and distribute high-quality “CIFA-GI Scampi®” seeds nationwide, ensuring affordable access for farmers to enhance scampi production.
The MoU was signed by Dr P. K. Sahoo, Director, ICAR-CIFA, and Dr S. Balasubramanian, Vice President of CPF (India), with representatives from both organizations present.
