ICAR-CIFA Organizes Kisan Mela-cum-Exhibition on Freshwater Aquaculture
31 January 2025, New Delhi: ICAR-Central Institute of Freshwater Aquaculture organized a Kisan Mela-cum Exhibition focused on Freshwater Aquaculture at Kausalyaganga, on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar, today.
The Mela was inaugurated by Swami Atmaprabhanandaji, Secretary Maharaj of the Ramakrishna Mission, Bhubaneswar. He commended ICAR-CIFA’s efforts in transferring agricultural technologies to farmers and emphasized the importance of the event.
Dr P.K. Sahoo, Director, ICAR-CIFA, highlighted the significance of scientific fish farming. He also discussed the institute’s initiatives aimed at empowering economically disadvantaged communities, particularly the scheduled caste groups.
Dr Arjamadutta Sarangi, Director, ICAR-Indian Institute of Water Management, Bhubaneswar, along with other senior officials, graced the occasion.
In 2024, ICAR-CIFA conducted numerous awareness programs, technology transfers, demonstrations, and training sessions, benefiting over 3000 farm families across eight states. Key technologies demonstrated included scientific carp culture, ornamental fish farming, catfish rearing, and integrated fish farming.
The exhibition featured eight organizations showcasing products, technologies, and publications related to agriculture and allied sectors.
During the Scientist-Farmer Interface, experts from various fields such as animal husbandry, horticulture, aquaculture, crop sciences, and tuber crops engaged with farmers, answering their questions in the local language.
The event was attended by over 460 farmers and farmwomen from various districts of Odisha, including Angul, Bhadrak, Dhenkanal, Jagatsingpur, Khordha, and Puri.
