Govt Committed to Welfare of Farmers in the Country, Says Agri Min Shivraj Singh Chauhan

02 August 2024, New Delhi: Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan today said that the government is committed to the welfare of farmers in the country. He said, sufficient budgetary allocation has been made in this year’s budget to ensure farmer welfare.

Replying to discussion on the working of the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, the Minister said, over one lakh 32 thousand crore rupees have been allocated for agriculture in this years’ budget, which was over 27 thousand crore rupees in 2013-14. The Minister said, the government is focussing on irrigation which resulted in record production of foodgrains to over 329 million tonnes in 2023-24.

He said, efforts have been taken to increase the production of pulses. The Minister said, the government is providing fertilizer subsidies of over one lakh 95 thousand crore rupees which was only 71 thousand crore rupees in UPA rule in 2013-14. He said the government has also increased the minimum support prices of foodgrains. Mr. Chauhan said, increasing production of foodgrains, reducing the cost of production, and giving fair prices are the key objectives of the government.
