Government Taking Steps To Increase Income Of Farmers & Make Agriculture Profitable: Shyam Singh Rana
07 March 2025, Chandigarh: Haryana Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Minister Mr. Shyam Singh Rana said the aim of the state government is to increase the income of farmers and make agriculture a profitable business.
The minister was speaking at a programme of a private channel today. The Agriculture Minister said special efforts are being made to promote natural farming and make barren land fertile. Under this, shrimp farming is also being encouraged. He said natural farming, Farmer Producer Organizations (FPO), agricultural mechanization and agro tourism are being promoted to increase the income of farmers. To encourage natural farming, the government is planning to give better support price to its products. Farmers are being linked to FPOs to get more value for their products. Availability of modern agricultural equipment is being ensured and agro tourism will also be promoted.
The minister said farmers are being encouraged to move away from traditional farming and practice diversification. Mr. Shyam Singh Rana said an incentive of Rs 25,000 is being given for purchasing a native cow on adopting natural farming, which will soon be increased to Rs 30,000. Four natural farming training centers have been started in Haryana at Gurukul (Kurukshetra), Gharaunda (Karnal), Jind and Mangiana (Sirsa).
Under the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana, assistance of Rs 6563 crore has been given to 20.69 lakh farmers of Haryana so far.
He said in case of crop failure, information about the loss of farmers is collected by the agriculture officers at the block and district level. After this, compensation is provided to them through the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana or Kshatipurti portal.
The government has taken many effective steps to deal with the problem of stubble burning. Subsidy ranging from 50 to 80 per cent is being given on crop residue management machines and so far, 1,00,882 machines have been distributed. An incentive of Rs 1,000 per acre is being given for paddy residue management. Under the Mera Pani Meri Virasat scheme, assistance of Rs 7,000 per acre is being given for adopting other crops instead of paddy and Rs 4,000 per acre for adopting direct sowing of paddy. Incentives up to Rs 1,00,000 are being given to red zone panchayats to prevent stubble burning.
He said the Haryana Government is taking several steps to increase the income of farmers and make farming a profitable business. Schemes like natural farming, modern agricultural techniques, FPOs and agro tourism will provide economic strength to the farmers.
