Government Approves Procurement of Soybean at MSP for Madhya Pradesh Farmers
11 September 2024, New Delhi: In a move to support farmers, the central government has approved the procurement of soybean at the Minimum Support Price (MSP) from Madhya Pradesh. This decision comes after concerns were raised by farmers in the state about the low market prices of soybean, which had been selling below the MSP.
Union Minister for Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare, Mr. Shivraj Singh Chouhan, announced the approval, emphasizing the government’s commitment to the welfare of farmers. “Serving farmers is like worshipping God for us,” said Chouhan, adding that agriculture remains a top priority for Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi.
Madhya Pradesh, a major soybean-producing state, recently submitted a proposal to the central government seeking approval to buy the crop at MSP. The proposal was swiftly processed, and within a day, the government approved the procurement.
Chouhan assured farmers, saying, “The farmers of Madhya Pradesh should not worry; soybean will be bought at MSP rates, and they will be paid the full price for their hard work.”
This decision mirrors earlier approvals for states like Maharashtra and Karnataka, where soybean was also procured at MSP to protect farmers from low market prices. The move is expected to provide relief to Madhya Pradesh’s farmers, ensuring fair compensation for their soybean produce amidst fluctuating market conditions.
