Field Survey and Farmers Interaction Meet
12 June 2024, Goa: ICAR-Central Coastal Agricultural Research Institute, Goa, and ICAR-National Bureau of Animal Genetic Resources, Karnal jointly organized a Field Survey and farmer interaction programme in North and South Goa districts from 8th-9th June 2024.
Dr. B.P. Mishra, Director, ICAR-NBAGR, Karnal, and Dr. Parveen Kumar, Director, ICAR-CCARI, Goa along with the team of scientists from both Institutes visited various farmer fields, surveyed Indigenous animal species including cattle, buffalo, pig, poultry and interacted with the farmers in Carambolim, Khorjuve, Shikeri, Aldona and Pernem areas of North Goa, Agaciam, Verna and Vasco areas of South Goa.
The team of scientists visited Gomantak Gausevak Mahasangh Goshala in Shikeri, which houses over 4,000 native cattle, including rare color variants like tiger-striped, mottled, and spotted cattle. The head of Goshala received the “Breed Conservation Award 2023” for the Shweta Kapila cattle breed. The team raised awareness about the sustainable management of Indigenous AnGRs and regional livestock biodiversity, providing guidance on animal breed registration, breed improvement, and scientific livestock rearing.
The team also visited Aldona farmers under the NABARD poultry project and distributed veterinary medicines and feed supplements during the programme.
