Field day on ‘nutrient management in citrus’ organized at Abohar

29 May 2023, Punjab: Punjab Agricultural University – Regional Research Station, Abohar organized a field day on ‘Nutrient Management in Citrus’ at Abohar on 25 th May, 2023. The field day was organized under the SCSP scheme of ICAR-All India Coordinated Research Project (AICRP) on Fruits. Dr. P K Arora, Dr. A K Sangwan, Dr. Anil Kumar, Dr. Shashi Pathania, Dr. Krishan Kumar, Dr. Subhash Chander, Dr. Sandeep Raheja, Dr. Prakash Mahala, and Dr. J K Arora joined the field day as experts.

The gathering was apprised that the objective of the SCSP component is to uplift the social and economic status of the schedule caste famers. Experts elaborated on enhancing citrus productivity with judicious use of nutrients. The congregates were apprised about soil and leaf testing techniques, deficiency symptoms of various mineral elements and their management, age- wise nutrient requirement of Citrus trees for south-western region, methods and time of fertilizer application to enhance nutrient use efficiency in citrus. The farmers were also practically demonstrated about soil, foliar and drip application of fertilizers. Apart from nutrition, experts also covered different aspects of fruit cultivation like new improved varieties of citrus and other fruits suitable for planting in the region, cultural practices for managing soil moisture under increasing temperature regimes, integrated management of insect pests and disease prevalent during summer months. Apart from it, the farmer queries about cotton and vegetable cultivation were also addressed. The farmers had a fruitful interaction with the scientists in the field day. Twenty farmers were also distributed fertilizers for use in citrus under the SCSP scheme of ICAR-AICRP on Fruits project. At the end, Dr. Anil Sangwan, Director, RRS, Abohar thanked the participants and urged them to judiciously utilize the resources.
