Farmers Fair under Mera Gaon Mera Gaurav Scheme
09 November 2024, New Delhi: ICAR-National Institute of Natural Fibre Engineering and Technology, in collaboration with ICAR-Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Hoogly, and Bidhan Chandra Krishi Viswavidyalaya, organized a farmers’ fair under the Mera Gaon Mera Gaurav scheme at ICAR-KVK Howrah today.
The Chief Guest, Prof. Goutam Saha, Vice-Chancellor, BCKV, highlighted the importance of modern technologies for addressing food security and climate change. He also urged the farmers to adopt value-added practices and participate in ICAR-NINFET training programmes.
The distinguished guests, Prof. Koushik Brahmachari, Director, Extension, BCKV, and Dr Ramprasad Ghosh, Joint Director, Agriculture, Govt of West Bengal, added significant value to the event with their presence.
Dr D.B. Shakyawar, Director, ICAR-NINFET, briefed about the key technological advancements over recent years, including the retting accelerator ICAR-NINFET Sathi, jute leaf beverages, an AI-based jute grading system, vegan leather, keratin-enriched cosmetic products, and biodegradable packaging. He also emphasised their potential to boost farmer income and sustainability.
Technical sessions led by ICAR-NINFET scientists provided farmers with in-depth knowledge of innovative technologies, while an exhibition offered opportunities for direct interaction with experts and hands-on exploration of practical solutions to enhance agricultural practices.
About 150 farmers from nearby villages attended the programme.
