e-Crop based Smart Farming Facility launched

21 June 2022, New Delhi: Mr. P. Prasad, Minister for Agriculture Development & Farmers’ Welfare, Government of Kerala inaugurated the Training Programme on “Smart Farming using e-Crop” by launching the e-Crop based Smart Fertigation Facility at the ICAR-Central Tuber Crops Research Institute, Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala here today.

Launching the facility, the Minister outlined the importance of providing the farmers with the smart services for enabling them to become smart. Mr. Prasad emphasized on the need for the Government and the society to interfere for solving the problems being faced by the farmers.

The Electronic Crop (e-Crop) is an Internet of Things Device based on Artificial Intelligence Technology like ICT for enhancing the farmer’s income and it is first of its kind developed in the ICAR in 2014 by Dr. Santhosh Mithra, Principal Scientist, ICAR-CTCRI, Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala.

The Guest of Honor, Smt. L.R. Arathy, I.E.S., Kerala State Horticulture Mission expressed her happiness in associating with ICAR-CTCRI, Thiruvananthapuram in developing the latest Artificial Intelligence-based Technology in Agriculture. Smt. Arathy also launched the SMS Services of e-Crop and released a Publication on “Integrated Management of Mealy Bugs in Cassava” during the occasion.

In his keynote address, Dr. Vikramaditya Pandey, ADG (Horticultural Sciences), ICAR stressed the need of human touch in the effective transfer of technology.

Earlier, delivering the welcome address, Dr. M.N. Sheela, Director, ICAR-CTCRI, Thiruvananthapuram underlined the technologies developed and the Schemes implemented by the Institute.

Around 100 farmers from 5 Panchayats of Nedumangadu Blocks, Aruvikkara, Panavoor, Karakularm, Vembayam and Anad were trained in the e-Crop Based Smart Farming Facility.
