Dragon Fruit Now on e-NAM, Govt Adds 10 New Commodities for Trade

10 February 2025, New Delhi: To meet the growing demand from farmers, traders, and other stakeholders, the Department of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare has expanded the scope of trade under the e-NAM platform. This decision aims to boost digital trading opportunities for the agricultural sector, providing a wider range of commodities for trade. The Directorate of Marketing and Inspection (DMI) has now formulated tradable parameters for 10 additional agricultural commodities, further enhancing the efficiency and inclusivity of the platform. The parameters have been finalized after extensive consultations with state agencies, traders, subject matter specialists, and the Small Farmers’ Agribusiness Consortium (SFAC), with approval from the Union Minister of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare, Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan.

DMI plays a crucial role in defining tradable parameters for agricultural commodities on e-NAM, ensuring quality assurance and commercial value for farmers. By setting these parameters, the initiative aims to help farmers secure better prices, promote transparency, and facilitate fair trading practices, ultimately strengthening the agricultural market.

With the inclusion of these 10 new commodities, the total number of tradeable agricultural products on e-NAM rises to 231. The latest additions include:

  • Miscellaneous Commodities: Dried Tulsi Leaves, Besan (Chickpea Flour), Wheat Flour, Chana Sattu (Roasted Chickpea Flour), Water Chestnut Flour
  • Spices: Asafoetida, Dried Fenugreek Leaves
  • Vegetables: Water Chestnut, Baby Corn
  • Fruits: Dragon Fruit

Among these, products such as Chana Sattu, Besan, Wheat Flour, and Asafoetida fall under the category of secondary trade. This expansion is expected to significantly benefit Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs) by enabling them to market value-added products and formalize trade in these sectors.

The newly approved tradable parameters will be available on the e-NAM portal (enam.gov.in), making digital trading of these commodities more accessible. This initiative further strengthens e-NAM’s role in providing farmers with better market access, improved pricing, and enhanced quality assurance. The Government’s continued focus on modernizing agriculture through digital interventions like e-NAM ensures a more inclusive, transparent, and efficient marketplace for farmers across India.
