26 July 2024, Chandigarh: Haryana Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Minister, Mr. Kanwar Pal said that a sum of Rs. 65 crores is being released to compensate the farmers affected by the loss of cotton crop during Kharif 2023. Additionally, a subsidy of Rs. 101 crores has been sent to the farmers’ bank accounts for the purchase of agricultural equipment.
In a statement issued here today, he said that the cotton crop in Cluster-2’s seven districts namely, Ambala, Hisar, Gurugram, Jind, Karnal, Mahendragarh, and Sonipat was damaged during Kharif 2023. To compensate the affected farmers, the Haryana Fasal Suraksha Yojana was implemented. Currently, an amount of Rs. 65 crores is being directly transferred to the bank accounts of approximately 15,314 eligible farmers as financial assistance.
The Agriculture Minister further shared that under the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana for Kharif 2024, crops in Cluster-1 are being insured by Agriculture Insurance Company, in Cluster-2 by HDFC Ergo, and in Cluster-3 by Reliance General Insurance Company.
Mr. Kanwar Pal also informed that the state government has been running various schemes for crop residue management for several years. Under these schemes, agricultural equipment for crop residue management is provided to the farmers.
Presently, a sum of Rs. 101 crores has been directly deposited into farmers’ accounts as a subsidy for the purchase of agricultural equipment. Additionally, the state government has invited online applications on the department’s website until August 4, 2024, for subsidies on the purchase of crop residue management machines in the current financial year. Farmers who wish to avail of the benefits of this scheme can apply on the department’s website as soon as possible, shared Mr. Kanwar Pal.
The Agriculture Minister said that if farmers change the crop recorded in their Kisan Credit Card and sow another crop, they should inform their respective bank branch to ensure proper crop insurance and timely claim settlement. Furthermore, farmers who have not taken crop loans from banks can get their crops insured at CSC centres. Farmers who wish to insure their crops themselves can do so on the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana website www.pmfby.gov.in.
