Certification Course on ‘Integrated Nutrient Management for Fertilizer Dealers’ Inaugurated
16 December 2024, New Delhi: A 15-day certificate course on ‘Integrated Nutrient Management for Fertilizer Dealers’ was inaugurated today at ICAR-Krishi Vigyan Kendra (BCKV), Nadia. The collaborative endeavor by the ICAR-KVK Nadia, Fertilizer Association of India (FAI) – Eastern Region (FAI-ER), Kolkata, and ICAR-Agricultural Technology Application Research Institute, Kolkata, aims to empower agro-input dealers with essential technical expertise in fertilizer application and soil health management.
Dr Pradip Dey, Director of ICAR-ATARI, Kolkata, highlighted the vital role of plant nutrients in crop productivity, stating that fertilizers, when used responsibly, drive agricultural growth. He emphasized the need for technical knowledge among fertilizer dealers to provide accurate guidance to farmers. Dr Dey also stated that the training programme is designed to align with government goals and empower fertilizer dealers as trusted advisors, promoting sustainable practices and soil health.
Guest of Honour Dr Subodh Kumar Singh, Regional Executive of FAI-ER, Kolkata, spoke about the regulatory mandate for fertilizer dealership licensing, which requires either an agricultural degree/diploma or completion of a recognized 15-day certification programme. The initiative has been undertaken by the FAI to fulfill the mandate, ensuring that dealers are adequately equipped to provide informed, science-based recommendations, he added.
A total of 30 participants from West Bengal State Cooperative Marketing Federation Ltd. attended the programme.
