Brainstorming session on Future Extension Research Perspectives on eve of 45th Foundation Day of ICAR-ATARI, Jabalpur

13 September 2024, Jabalpur: On the occasion of the 45th foundation day of ICAR-Agricultural Technology Application Research Institute, Jabalpur, a brainstorming session on Future Extension Research Perspectives for ICAR-KVKs was organized today.

The Chief Guest, Dr Rachell McDonnell, Deputy Director General-Research for Development, International Water Management Institute highlighted changing climate, nutritional insecurity, depletion of resources needs bio-diversified farm practices. Next step in agricultural revolution is to conserve nature. He further added that optimizing the use of artificial intelligence and integrating citizen science into agriculture are crucial for the future. Women will play a central role in the next phase of agriculture. It’s essential to rethink and redesign agricultural practices to conserve resources effectively. The ideas, skills, and technologies available at KVKs must be shared globally in a collaborative manner to benefit everyone.

Dr. Gopal Kumar, International Researcher, Agro-ecology, NRM, IWMI, New Delhi emphasized focus on agro-ecological practices to deal with challenges arising in the agriculture. ICAR-ATARI Jabalpur and ICAR-Krishi Vigyan Kendras can play a crucial role in the gradual transition from intensive agriculture to agro-ecological practices. Homestead cultivation is particularly significant for ensuring nutritional security, he added.

Dr S. R. K. Singh, Director, ICAR-ATARI, Jabalpur stated that extension is realigning with climate resilient agriculture, market aspects, nutritional security, women empowerment, group dynamics and resources use efficiency to serve future needs in his concluding remark.

Dr Alok Sikka, Country Representative for India and Bangladesh, IWMI and Dr J. S. Mishra, Director, ICAR- Directorate of Weed Research, Jabalpur also graced the occasion.

More than 40 participants from KVKs, and ICAR-ATARI, Jabalpur participated in the workshop online & offline mode.
