Annual Cashew Day Highlights Innovation And Industry Collaboration

13 March 2025, New Delhi: ICAR-Directorate of Cashew Research, Puttur, hosted its Annual Cashew Day today, bringing together key cashew industry and research community stakeholders. A key highlight was the announcement of a new cashew apple and nut separation technology developed through a collaboration between ICAR-DCR and the ICAR-Central Institute of Agricultural Engineering (ICAR-CIAE), Bhopal. This cutting-edge machine combines nut separation, juice-pulp extraction, and fibrous material separation, boosting processing efficiency in the cashew industry.

A major milestone was the signing of an umbrella memorandum of agreement (MoA) between ICAR-CIAE-DCR and M/s Phison Agritech Private Limited, facilitated by Agrinnovate India Limited. The agreement licenses the new 3-in-1 cashew processing machine to Phison Agritech for commercialization.

The MoA was signed by Dr C.R. Mehta, Director, ICAR-CIAE; Dr J. Dinakara Adiga, Director, ICAR-DCR; Dr Praveen Malik, CEO, Agrinnovate India; and Mr. Varun Jose, Managing Director, Phison Agritech.

The event also featured an exhibition showcasing technologies developed by ICAR-DCR and its incubatee Mr. Radhakrishna, proprietor of Nithya Food, along with innovations from Mr. Brijith Krishna (founder, Eatery Malabaricus) and Mr. Binoy (proprietor, Chully Farmers Club).

Additionally, the latest edition of Cashew News, the half-yearly newsletter of ICAR-DCR, along with extension folders on cashew apple value-added products, nutrient deficiencies, and the Nethra Jumbo-2 and Farmers Tracking System, were released.
