Agriculture Minister praises Cabinet’s approval of One-time Special Package on Di-Ammonium Phosphate (DAP)

06 January 2025, New Delhi: Haryana Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Minister, Mr. Shyam Singh Rana today lauded the visionary steps taken by the Union Cabinet to protect farmers’ interests. He expressed gratitude to Prime Minister, Mr.Narendra Modi and Union Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Minister, Mr. Shivraj Singh Chouhan for their commitment to the welfare of farmers. 

In a statement, Mr. Rana said that the Cabinet has  approved a one-time special package for Di-Ammonium Phosphate (DAP) at the rate of Rs. 3,500 per metric tonne in addition to the existing Nutrient-Based Subsidy (NBS) scheme.

With a total financial cost of Rs. 3,850 crore, the initiative ensures the availability of DAP at affordable prices despite global market volatility and geopolitical challenges, providing significant relief to the farmers.

He emphasised that this package reflects the government’s unwavering commitment to empowering hard working farmers. Since April 2024, over Rs. 6,475 crore has been allocated for special DAP packages, showcasing a proactive approach to addressing farmers’ needs. The availability of affordable DAP will reduce the financial burden on farmers and boost agricultural productivity during the upcoming Kharif and Rabi seasons, added the Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Minister.

Mr. Rana also commended the central government decision for extending the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY) and Restructured Weather Based Crop Insurance Scheme (RWBCIS) up to 2025-26. A massive amount of Rs. 69,515.71 crore has been spent on these schemes, which provide risk coverage for crops against unforeseen natural calamities and ensure financial security of farmers.

The Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Minister also stated the importance of the Fund for Innovation and Technology (FIAT), established with a budget of Rs. 824.77 crore, to drive innovation in agriculture. 

The Agriculture Minister stated that these transformative measures by the central government mark the beginning of a new era for Indian agriculture. He said that these decisions reflect a visionary approach of the Central Government to empower farmers and to strengthen the agricultural economy.
