Agriculture Minister holds important meeting with officials, state heads of insurance companies

24 May 2023, Chandigarh: Keeping in view the interests of the farmers, Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister, Mr. J P Dalal directed the insurance companies to transfer the compensation amount to the accounts of the eligible farmers in the next 10 days under the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana.

The Agriculture Minister was holding an important meeting here today with the senior officials of the department and the state heads of insurance companies regarding compensation for crop loss to farmers enrolled under Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana in Kharif 2022 season. In the meeting, the compensation given to the farmers by the three insurance companies of the state was reviewed.

Mr. J P Dalal directed that since the subsidy has been released by the government to the insurance companies, therefore, the companies should ensure to given the compensation amount within 10 days; else 10 percent interest and penalty will be imposed on them.

He said that the state government is committed to protect the interests of the farmers and stands shoulder to shoulder with them. “The crop loss caused due to natural calamities puts a financial burden on the farmers and in such a situation, if the insurance companies do not provide the compensation amount on time, it add to the woes of the farmers,” he added.

Mr. JP Dalal said that the insurance companies should disburse the compensation amount in a time-bound manner. “If this does not happen, the government will take other strict steps including blacklisting them,” he said.

Additional Chief Secretary, Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Department, Mr. Sudhir Rajpal, Special Secretary of the department, Mr. Amarjeet Mann and state heads of the insurance companies were also present in the meeting.
