After Onions, Now the Prices of Tomatoes Have Also Started Increasing
27 September 2024, New Delhi: After onions, now the prices of tomatoes have also started increasing. During the week, the wholesale and retail prices of tomatoes have increased by 20 to 30 percent.
Tomatoes which were sold at Rs 35-40 per kg in the market are being sold at Rs 50 to 60 per kg. The reason for the price increase is said to be the decrease in arrivals from Maharashtra and Karnataka. It is being said that during the last 10 days, there has been a 25-30 percent decrease in the arrival of tomatoes.
If we talk about Delhi, then in the last two days the wholesale price of tomatoes has been from Rs 32 to Rs 40. 7-8 days ago, tomatoes were being sold at Rs 28 to Rs 30 per kg. According to traders, the price of tomatoes has increased after the decrease in arrivals from Maharashtra and Karnataka. Due to rain in both the states, tomato crops have been damaged and roads have also been blocked. This is the reason that where earlier 35-40 trucks of tomatoes used to come from both the states every day, now only 20-25 trucks are reaching the market.
Onion prices unchanged
Despite the government selling onions at cheap rates, the prices of onions in the retail market have remained stable for a fortnight. Recently, onions were sold at Rs 70 per kg in Rajapur market. Onion traders in Azadpur Mandi said that onion prices have neither decreased nor increased since the last one week. Wholesale prices are ranging between Rs 40 to Rs 48 per kg.
