01 November 2022, Gujarat: Disappointed over a sharp fall in garlic prices, Gujarat farmers are donating their produce to their poorer people in the state.

State President of Gujarat Kisan Sangathan, Mr. Gajendrasinh Zala said that per acre garlic production cost is about Rs 37,100 and the per acre garlic yield is 3 tons. Today, the market rate of garlic has crashed to Rs 150 for 20 kg. So, the farmer is hardly earning Rs 22,500 for crops harvested on one acre of land.

The farmers have been demanding the state and central government to announce MSP for horticulture crops too. According to the State Horticulture Director’s official data in the year 2021-22, farmers had cultivated garlic on 26,013 hectares of land and the production was 202,828 tons.
