24 August 2024, New Delhi: As part of ICAR-Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Swarna Samriddhi 2024 celebrations marking 50 years, ICAR-KVKs of ICAR-Agricultural Technology Application Research Institute, Bengaluru, carried out 50000+ tree plantation campaigns across Karnataka, Kerala and Lakshadweep in three phases: World Environment Day, the 96th ICAR Foundation Day and Independence Day 2024.
The first phase drive began with planting tree saplings in the ICAR-ATARI campus on World Environment Day, 05 June 2024, in the presence of Dr. Sushilkumar, Director, ICAR – National Bureau of Agricultural Insect Resources, Bengaluru, Dr. V. Venkatasubramanian, Director, ICAR-ATARI, Bengaluru and staff of the institute. Subsequently, all the KVKs of ICAR-ATARI Bengaluru planted 19370 tree plantings during the event.
The second phase of tree planting in Zone-XI was taken up on the occasion of the 96th ICAR Foundation Day Celebrations on July 16, 2024, wherein KVKs planted 22911 tree saplings across Karnataka, Kerala and Lakshadweep.
The third phase of the campaign was held on Independence Day 2024 wherein ICAR-KVKs of zone XI planted 21565 tree saplings in all districts of Karnataka, Kerala, and Lakshadweep.
Thus, a total of 63846 tree saplings were planted throughout the 50000+ tree plantation campaign.
