₹1,000-Crore Deal: L&T to Build Major Fertilizer Plant for Rashtriya Chemicals in Maharashtra

14 October 2024, New Delhi: Rashtriya Chemicals and Fertilizers Ltd (RCF), a state-owned enterprise, announced that its board has approved a significant purchase order with Larsen & Toubro Ltd for the construction of a new complex fertilizer plant at its Thal facility. The plant will have a capacity of 1200 MTPD (on a DAP basis).

In a statement to the stock exchange, RCF confirmed that the board’s decision was made during their meeting on the same day. The project will be executed on a lump-sum turn-key (LSTK) basis, with an estimated value of ₹1,000.27 crore, excluding GST. The construction is expected to be completed within 27 months.

Earlier in July, RCF also revealed that it had entered into a contract with Topsoe for the modernization of its ammonia plant at the Thal site. This agreement, worth ₹514.6 crore, includes the acquisition of a basic engineering design package and the supply of specialized equipment and catalysts intended to enhance energy efficiency. This contract, awarded to the international firm Topsoe, has a duration of 36 months.

Currently, the Indian government holds a 75% stake in RCF, while the remaining 25% is distributed among various entities, including LIC, mutual funds, UTI, financial institutions, and the public.

RCF operates fertilizer and chemical manufacturing facilities in two locations—Trombay and Thal in Maharashtra—producing a diverse range of nitrogenous, phosphatic, and potassic fertilizers, as well as various industrial chemicals.
