Vietnam and Canada strengthen cooperation in agriculture

28 February 2022, Vietnam: On February 23, in Hanoi, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Tran Thanh Nam had a meeting with Canadian Ambassador to Vietnam Ms. Deborah Paul who came to say goodbye to the end of her term in Vietnam.

At the meeting, Deputy Minister Tran Thanh Nam said: During her tenure, Ambassador Deborah Paul has made many contributions in promoting cooperation between Vietnam and Canada in all fields. She has always participated and actively contributed in Forums, Industry Policy Consultancy Workshops, especially in a series of Workshops on Vietnam’s food system. She has left many imprints in the field of agriculture and rural development during her tenure in Vietnam, especially in 2 projects as follows: The Vietnam Cooperative Enterprise Development Project, which is funded by the Government of Canada (VCED). During her work, she has always been interested in implementing the project with the goal of building new market-oriented agricultural cooperatives, increasing knowledge, skills and competitiveness for farmers; improve the way cooperatives are managed. In addition, the Food Safety for Development Project (SAFEGRO) focuses on supporting the development and enforcement of food safety regulations; Towards raising awareness about food safety for consumers and promoting behavior change leading to increased demand and consumption of safe agricultural products.

Deputy Minister Tran Thanh Nam thanked Ms. Deborah Paul for her contributions to the Vietnam – Canada relations in general and to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development in particular. The Deputy Minister hoped that Ms. Deborah Paul, after completing her term in Vietnam, would always pay attention and support for Vietnam, especially the agriculture and rural development sector.

Ms. Deborah Paul congratulated Vietnam’s agricultural industry on many achievements in the past year with a record export turnover of agricultural products despite being heavily affected by the Covid-19 pandemic. She also congratulated the government of Viet Nam and MARD leaders on recent commitments at COP 26. MARD plays an important role in achieving these goals in terms of responding to climate change, low carbon and green growth.
