Vietnam: Action plan on green growth in agriculture
25 September 2022, VN: The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development has approved the Action Plan to implement the National Strategy on Green Growth for the 2021-2030 period.
Action plan to concretize goals, tasks and solutions to implement the National Green Growth Strategy for the period 2021-2030, with a vision to 2050 in Decision No. 1658/QD-TTg dated October, 1st, 2021 and the National Green Growth Action Plan for the 2021-2030 period in Decision No. 882/QD-TTg dated July 22, 2022.
Accordingly, agricultural development in the direction of ecology, organic, circular, low carbon emission in order to improve growth quality, added value, competitiveness and sustainable development; reduce environmental pollution in agriculture and rural areas, effectively and efficiently use energy and natural resources towards a carbon-neutral economy by 2050.
Specifically, the GDP growth rate of the agricultural sector is from 2.5-3% per year. Action plan aims to improve efficiency in the use and protection of land, water, aquatic resources, forests, and biodiversity conservation. Forest coverage rate is maintained at 42%, the area with sustainable forest management certificate is over 1 million ha.
The agricultural sector has set a target that the proportion of organic fertilizer products in the total fertilizer products produced and consumed will reach over 30%; increase the number of biological plant protection drugs in the list of pesticides permitted to be used to over 30%; at least 30% of the total irrigated dry crop area shall be applied advanced and water-saving irrigation methods.
Along with converting 300,000 hectares of rice land to planting other crops with higher economic and environmental efficiency, the agricultural sector strives for the area of organic cropland to reach over 2% of the total cultivated land area. The percentage of organic livestock products is about 2-3% of the total livestock products produced in the country.
