Vice Minister Ma Youxiang Meets with Spanish Agriculture and Fishery Officials

28 May 2024, China: Ma Youxiang, Vice Minister of Agriculture and Rural Affairs of China, met with Begoña García Bernal, Secretary of State for Agriculture and Food of Spain, and Isabel Artime García, Secretary General of Fisheries of Spain, in Madrid on May 23. They exchanged views on promoting pragmatic cooperation in agriculture and fisheries. 

Vice Minister Ma pointed out that under the strategic guidance of the leaders of both countries, China and Spain have further developed their agricultural cooperation. The two countries have become important partners in agro-trade, steadily advanced technological cooperation, achieved fruitful results in fishery cooperation, and maintained positive cooperation in agricultural heritage. China hopes to work with Spain to fully leverage the China–Spain working group on agricultural cooperation; further strengthen exchanges in agricultural technologies; expand the scope of rural development cooperation; and fully tap the cooperative potential in areas such as germplasm resources, fishery technologies, and sustainable livestock production, so as to better complement each other and achieve mutually beneficial results. 

Secretary of State Bernal and Secretary General García spoke positively of the two countries’ cooperation in agriculture and fishery. They said Spain hopes to work with China to further enhance cooperation in agricultural technologies, fishery and rural development, in order to create closer economic and trade ties and reap more concrete results in bilateral agricultural cooperation.
