The Agriculture Sector Will Achieve A Growth Target Of 4% In 2025
30 December 2024, China: The agriculture and rural development sector in 2024 has achieved 15/15 socio-economic targets, surpassing 2023 when it only achieved 14/15 targets, contributing greatly to the overall achievements of the whole country. Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh highly appreciated this outstanding result and believed that the ADR sector will continue to maintain its growth momentum to achieve the agricultural GDP target of 3.5-4% next year.
On December 27, in Hanoi, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) held a conference to summarize 2024 and deploy the 2025 plan for the Agriculture and Rural Development sector. Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh attended and chaired the conference with Minister Le Minh Hoan.
In 2024, the agriculture and rural development sector carried out its tasks in conditions with intertwined advantages and difficulties, challenges, especially storm No.3 (Yagi) which caused severe damage to agricultural production in the northern provinces. However, with the close direction of the Party, the National Assembly, the Government and the Prime Minister, in the spirit of “Discipline, responsibility, timely initiative, accelerated innovation, sustainable efficiency”, the whole sector overcame difficulties and challenges to reap many outstanding achievements.
Vietnamese agriculture has both firmly ensured national food security and strongly and deeply integrated into the international community; many key and strong agricultural products continue to expand their markets. Vietnam’s agricultural exports have achieved many new records. Vietnamese agriculture affirms its important position as the driving force and pillar of the country’s economy.
Of which, the total production value (GO) of the whole industry achieved an estimated growth rate of 3.3%, the forest coverage rate reached 42.02%; the rate of communes meeting new rural standards reached 78.7%; the rate of rural households using clean water meeting standards reached 58%. The total export turnover of agriculture, forestry and fishery products reached a record high of 62.5 billion USD, an increase of 18.7% compared to 2023; the trade surplus continued to reach a new record of 17.9 billion USD, an increase of 46.8%. Of which, main agricultural product exports: 32.8 billion USD, an increase of 22.4%; livestock: 533.6 million USD, an increase of 6.5%; main forestry products: 17.28 billion USD, an increase of 19.4%; aquatic products: 10.07 billion USD, an increase of 12.2%. There are 07 products/groups of exported goods with over 3 billion USD (an increase of 01 product compared to 2023).
2025 is the year of acceleration and breakthrough to the target of implementing the 5-year Industry Development Plan 2021 – 2025 and the Resolution of the 13th National Party Congress, the Agriculture and Rural Development sector focuses on removing difficulties and obstacles, minimizing the negative impacts of epidemics and market fluctuations, natural disasters… to increase exports, take advantage of opportunities from the EVFTA and CPTPP Agreements for Vietnamese agricultural products, striving for a total export turnover of agriculture, forestry and fishery products of 64 – 65 billion USD; GDP growth rate of the whole sector of 3.3 – 3.4%; The rate of communes meeting new rural standards is over 80%; The forest coverage rate remains stable at 42.02%; The rate of rural households using clean water is 60%.
On behalf of the Government, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh expressed his deep gratitude to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development for its efforts and outstanding achievements in the past year. One of the typical marks of the sector is the recovery work after Typhoon Yagi – a great challenge but also a testament to the sense of responsibility and effective leadership.
The Prime Minister emphasized: It is necessary to look back and analyze carefully to properly assess the sector’s leadership in responding to natural disasters. The consultation, organization, implementation, and coordination of dam safety during severe flooding clearly demonstrated the mettle and intelligence of the Ministry’s leaders.
On behalf of the leaders of the MARD, Minister Le Minh Hoan thanked the Government and Prime Minister for their attention and close direction to the agricultural sector in the past time.
The Minister also affirmed to seriously accept the Prime Minister’s instructions. The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development will have specific solutions to implement the key tasks assigned by the Prime Minister in 2025. The Minister also thanked the attention and coordination of the Central Ministries, Departments and Branches; and the sharing of enterprises and associations in the past time. In 2025, the Ministry hopes to continue to receive the attention of Party and State leaders, the close coordination of Ministries, Departments and Branches, as well as the sharing of enterprises, associations, cooperatives and the consensus of all people for the development of agriculture.
