Seafood exports hit 10 billion USD for the first time

12 December 2022, VN: By the end of November 2022, the country’s seafood export has reached more than 10 billion USD. It is expected that by the end of 2022, Vietnam’s seafood exports will reach the goal of 11 billion USD, up 25% compared to 2021.

The Celebration of Seafood Exports reaching 10 billion USD took place in the evening of December 10. The event was organized by the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP).

Speaking at the ceremony, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Phung Duc Tien praised and highly appreciated the efforts of the community of farmers, fishermen and businesses throughout the fisheries sector to successfully complete the 2022 targets with export value exceeding 10 billion USD.

It is known that by the end of November 2022, the country’s seafood export has reached more than 10 billion USD. It is expected that by the end of 2022, Vietnam’s seafood exports will reach the goal of 11 billion USD, up 25% compared to 2021. This is considered a historical record of Vietnam’s seafood industry, after more than 20 years since entering the world market.

Speaking at the ceremony, Ms. Nguyen Thi Hong Minh – Honorary President of VASEP said that 22 years ago in Hanoi, VASEP held a ceremony to celebrate the export of seafood surpassing 1 billion USD, a very impressive number at that time.

Ms. Minh added that 1998 was the year marking the most important milestones, since then, Vietnam’s seafood has become a strongly integrated export industry. That was the year that Vietnamese seafood was recognized by the EU as the first 18 enterprises, eligible for export to Europe.

At the ceremony, VASEP honored 30 leading exporters of pangasius, shrimp and seafood in the country./.
