Minister Tang Meets with FAO Director-General Qu Dongyu

13 March 2023, China: Chinese Minister of Agriculture and Rural Affairs Tang Renjian met with Director-General of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) Qu Dongyu in Beijing on Mar. 8. 

Minister Tang expressed his appreciation for Qu Dongyu’s work since he took office as the Director-General of FAO. He also spoke highly of FAO’s key role in global food and agriculture governance and its contribution to promoting world food security and sustainable agricultural development. He said China firmly upholds the role and status of FAO in global food and agriculture governance and will continue to provide strong support to FAO to jointly maintain global food security. China is ready to deepen practical cooperation with FAO in areas such as agricultural South-South cooperation, conservation of globally important agricultural heritage, and prevention and control of animal diseases.

Qu Dongyu spoke highly of China’s great achievements in agricultural and rural development and thanked the Chinese government for its consistent support for FAO. He said the Chinese government has made great contributions to maintaining food security in the country and the world. He also noted that FAO is willing to work with China to deepen cooperation in the field of food and agriculture in an all-round way to promote the realization of the UN’s 2030 Sustainable Development Goals.

Vice Minister of Agriculture and Rural Affairs Ma Youxiang attended the meeting.
