Glyphosate and Glufosinate production from China on hold due to power-cut

25 August 2022, China: Extremely high temperatures have continued since the beginning of summer in China, driving up demand for electricity throughout several districts. Power supply suspensions and supply re-structuring have been announced by the provinces of Sichuan, Anhui, Zhejiang, Jiangsu, and Shandong, which has had an impact on several manufacturers’ operations.

The most severe power supply deficit is in Sichuan. High temperatures have increased cooling demand since July of this year, and dry weather has decreased hydropower generation, leaving a significant gap in Sichuan’s electricity supply.

On August 14, the Department of Economy and Information Technology of Sichuan Province and the State Grid Sichuan Electric Power Company jointly issued an Urgent Notice requesting a shift from industrial power supply to civilian power supply.
