Exports of agro-forestry-fishery products show impressive growth despite Covid-19 pandemic

30 June 2021, China: The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) held a conference to review the first 6 months of the year and implement tasks for the last 6 months of 2021. Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Le Minh Hoan chaired the conference.

According to a report of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, despite being affected by the Covid-19 pandemic, the total AFF export turnover in the first 6 months of 2021 still increased sharply, exceeding the set plan, reaching a high result of 24.23 billion USD, up 28.2% over the same period in 2020; in which main agricultural products are 10.40 billion USD, up 13.3%; seafood 4.05 billion USD, up 12.5%; forest products 8.7 billion USD, up 61.5%.

Contributing to that success, there are products with high export turnover, including rubber, tea, pepper, cashew nuts, vegetables, cassava and products from cassava, wood and wood products, rattan, bamboo, sedge mat… In which, rubber, tea, vegetables, cashew nuts, cassava and cassava products increased both in volume and in export value, specifically: Rubber (+41.3% in volume, + 80% of the value), tea (+0.1% and +4.5%), cashew nuts (+22.2 %, +11.1%), cassava and cassava products (+16.3%, +30.5%). Particularly, although the export volume of pepper decreased (reaching 155,000 tons, down 6.7%), thanks to the increase in export prices, the export value still increased (reached 499 million USD, up 40.5%). Other commodities increased in value mainly thanks to volume such as wood and wood products reaching 8.1 billion USD (+74.8%), rattan, bamboo and sedge mat reaching about 447 million USD (+78.8%) ); shrimp 1.66 billion USD, up 8.5%. There are 4 biggest markets (China, USA, Japan and Korea) importing Vietnam’s AFF, of which 2 biggest markets (US and China) have been maintained good position in the past time.

The annual vegetable crops as well as industrial crops and fruit trees all increased in area and output compared to the same period in 2020. Specifically, the total area of ​​perennial crops is 3,614.3 thousand hectares, an increase of 46.1 thousand ha compared to the same period in 2020; group of fruit trees reached 1,132.7 thousand ha, an increase of 35.6 thousand ha, an increase of 3.2%; industrial plants reached 2,185.3 thousand ha, up 3.8 thousand ha, up 0.2%…
