Entrepreneurship through skill development in agriculture sector to attract youth for sustainability: Prof. Naveen Kumar
30 August 2024, Palampur: Vice-ChancellorProf. Naveen Kumar was the chief guest in Sensitization Programme held today on the topic “Fostering Entrepreneurship Education in Agricultural and Allied Sectors” for the students in virtual mode. The programme was organized jointly by Chaudhary Sarwan Kumar Himachal Pradesh Krishi Vishvavidyalaya Palampur and ICAR-National Academy of Agricultural Research Management (NAARM), Hyderabad. The main emphasis of the programme was to educate the students about the entrepreneurial opportunities in agriculture and allied sectors in the present-day scenario. More than 1100 students and faculty members of University and NAARM participated in the programme.
Prof. Naveen highlighted the pivotal role of agriculture in providing employment and driving economic growth of the stakeholders. He emphasized the importance of acquiring technical knowledge and skills for the students to transform agriculture into a sustainable and profitable venture. The efforts of ICAR-NAARM for organizing the sensitization programme at the time when the country’s youth are looking for employment was highly appreciated.
Dr. Srinivasa Rao, Director, ICAR-NAARM in his presidential remarks, delivered a comprehensive address emphasizing the multifaceted importance of agriculture in ensuring food security and sustainable development. He discussed the critical role of entrepreneurship in addressing key challenges such as food production and post-harvest losses. He also encouraged students to engage in enterprises that not only contribute to economic growth but also promote environmental protection and social well-being.
Dr.M.C.Rana, Dean, College of Agriculture and Dr. Akhilesh Sharma, Professor &University Nodal Officer, shared the university’s expectations from this sensitization programme. They also highlighted the proactive role taken by ICAR-NAARM in sensitizing students across the country in the field of Agripreneurship.
