Corteva Biological Showing Good Results in Root Systems
23 August 2024, AU: Corteva Agriscience’s Breeza research station has stood on the Liverpool Plains of NSW for 35 years, dedicated to continuous research and development in broadacre cropping.
Jon Dadd, Corteva’s Territory Account Manager and field station focal point emphasised one of the primary objectives of the research station as engaging and educating advisors in the cropping and agronomy industry.
“The trial work undertaken here focuses on research, development and commercial extension work for industry advisors,” he said.
“Over my 24 years of association with Breeza our main objective has been educating advisors to understand the complexities and benefits of products trialled so they can use them effectively.”
Last year’s tour of the Breeza site with Elders graduate agronomists saw the introduction and discussion of the new biostimulant Utrisha N. Now released and on the market, Jon and his team have undertaken a summer program which yielded interesting insights into root bio stimulation.
“A key finding out of the summer program was not just the nitrogen supply by the bacteria, but the bio stimulation of the roots,” he said.
“We have found that Utrisha N has enhanced the development of deeper and stronger root systems, improving water and nutrient uptake.”
A key takeaway from this year’s graduate tour was the importance of considering the use scenarios and benefits of new products embodying beneficial formulations and technologies.
“In regions like the south-eastern region of WA, waterlogging has become a major issue leading to de-nitrification in soils. It’s scenarios like these where Utrisha N can help supplement falling N levels,” he said.
“It’s also important to challenge ourselves to go beyond our usual recommendations and norms.
“Colex-D, for example, is a new herbicide which has been developed to have virtually no odour and near zero volatility when sprayed, distinguishing it from competitors in the industry.
Looking ahead, Jon is optimistic on the future of agronomic science, as research and development continue to skew the industry towards emerging trends.
“Innovative biologicals will play an important role in the management of nutrition and pests, for a sustainable future,” he predicts.
“For us Utrisha N has marked the beginning of Corteva’s biological franchise, with trials already underway for other new biological products, whose results we eagerly anticipate sharing in the near future.”
